Relaunch of Academy Gaming
Greetings Academy Gaming Guild Wars 2 and Overwatch community players! I wanted to take a moment to let you know where Academy Gaming is heading to throughout the remainder of the year and into 2017.
Academy Gaming has been around for over a year and a half now, having hosted the most Guild Wars 2 tournaments over the past 18 months and now host to many amateur tournaments in the Overwatch scene. This organization has gone miles beyond what I ever could have imagined. I once envisioned this organization as a small Guild Wars 2 event platform for lesser experienced teams to participate in tournaments without having to take on the scene’s top talent. With this I’ve ventured into the world of commentating and now have been a part of two LANs over the past six months.
This hasn’t been a journey without any help and my Guild Wars 2 event administrators are to thank for that. I wouldn’t be able to host these events without them. Although the past has been quite the experience, I am here to discuss the future of Academy Gaming and what to expect from us in the coming months.
Clearly we have brought out many changes to the website over the past week. If you’re yet to check out all of the features, take a look around. Our sponsors can now clearly be seen along with several additional page updates and design changes.
I have written dozens and dozens of articles over the past year which helped me transition into officially writing for the Guild Wars 2 competitive PvP website during the Pro League seasons. Although that writing is not as frequent, I have taken up many more projects which has limited my writing with Academy Gaming. That being said, I still anticipate there will be articles to read through on this website, but it will definitely be fewer and mainly focused around the events we host.
While I’ve had help with administrating my Guild Wars 2 tournaments, sadly that won’t be enough with the path Academy Gaming will be journeying down. I’ve always been searching for help but not actively, which is about to change. Starting now there will be an active search on my end for people looking to get experience in the competitive gaming industry. This would range from administration to marketing to graphic design and much more. It may be quite obvious Academy Gaming is not a major tournament organizer, but there is plenty to be offered from our end to benefit yours. Feel free to check out the job postings page for further information!
Our tournaments have always been aimed at the low to middle tier scene and will continue to do so but may reward more for the Overwatch side of things. We’re actively searching for ways to bring a base prize pool to our weekly tournaments and leagues in the Overwatch scene which will drive more and more teams to partake in our events. Keep an eye out for more information on this in the coming weeks, as I suspect we will arrive at something in the near future.
Lastly, as an organization we’ve always been a host to tournaments rather than teams. At this time we’re remaining as is but in the future we will begin our search for talent to become a part of our organization. We will be supporting at least two different gaming divisions all the while continuing to run our events on a regular basis. Doing this will have no influence on our events whatsoever. This decision has been a long time in the making and will finally come to fruition by the end of 2016.
There is a lot of work to be done throughout the remainder of the year and many more changes come. Be sure to follow @Academy_Gaming on Twitter for frequent tournament updates!
