The Hambow’s Downfall

wo of the most popular weapon sets for the Warrior was brought to popular use back in the fall of 2013, specifically for the Guild Wars 2 PAX Invitational.  One North American team, SYNC, and one European team, Car Crash, were going at it head to head in a battle for the $10,000 prize pool. SYNC was well known for bringing two spirit rangers to popular use and absolutely stunned the Guild Wars 2 world when they were able to take down Absolute Legends in an exciting finale to secure their spot at the PAX Invitational. Car Crash knew of their spirit ranger tactics so they sought to invent a build that would counter it and had great success with it in the end with the invention of the hambow.

Fast forward to a year and a half later and the hambow build is no longer the most dominant warrior build in existence. While the hambow stuck around for a while after the PAX Invitational, another build has since taken its place. The shoutbow build is now the meta of the warrior builds and the one recommended for all sorts of play, casual and competitive. The ‘issue’, if you will, at hand is the usage of hambow at this current time in Guild Wars 2. With stability out of the meta right now, you would think that the hambow build would be a smart and effective choice, but the way players have adapted to it is incredible and the build is no longer effective against anyone who can effectively manage their dodges. Even without dodging the majority of the hammer skills, the hambow build does not put out as much damage as the shoutbow build, not to mention the massive team support a shoutbow gives a team with the heals and condition removal.
